On October 20, in partnership with UCU Business School, UNIC organized the first regional in-person business event in Lviv titled "Transparent Business and Ukraine's Reconstruction: Opportunities for Scaling During Wartime." The event was supported by UNDP in Ukraine and funded by the Government of Japan.

Local business leaders and entrepreneurs came together to discuss pressing issues related to sustainability and development. They also had the chance to share practical insights on attracting investments. Participants engaged in insightful discussions with leading experts on various topics, including the challenges facing small and medium-sized businesses, tools for scaling, investor expectations, and the significance of business reputation and integrity in dealings with both Ukrainian and foreign partners.

According to Antonina Prudko, Head of the UNIC Secretariat, the outbreak of full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine forced businesses, like everyone else, to shift their focus to fundamental survival. "Despite numerous challenges, businesses remain the primary driving force of economic progress and carry the vital responsibility of contributing to recovery, job creation, and ensuring the country's sustainable development. Therefore, hosting such events is of particular importance in the context of economic recovery during times of war and Ukraine's reconstruction," emphasized Antonina Prudko.

Yaryna Boychuk, CEO of UCU Business School, highlighted the significance of organizing events with such themes in regional areas. "Conducting events on these topics in regional areas is an important step toward ensuring Ukraine's sustainable development and enhancing business transparency, a pivotal aspect of its involvement in recovery projects. The UCU Business School team was delighted to support this initiative and facilitate the organization of the event at our university for business representatives from Lviv and the surrounding region," Yaryna Boychuk stated.

Sofia Opatska, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development at the Ukrainian Catholic University and Founding Dean of the UCU Business School, shared insights from her research on trust. "Business is the engine for societal change. We have the power to set the tone and drive transformation. Business owners influence their employees, who, in turn, influence society."

UNIC extends its heartfelt appreciation to the speakers for their informative presentations and deep expertise, as well as to the participants for their initiative and interest. Special thanks go to our incredible partners who supported the event: UCU Business School, UNDP in Ukraine, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Office for Entrepreneurship Development and Export, and the national project Diia.Business.
