On May 11, the Annual General Meeting of UNIC members, "Reconstruction based on Integrity: The Road to a New Ukraine," was held, which launched a series of events within UNIC Business Integrity Month.
This year's General Meeting was devoted to rebuilding the country and Ukraine's integration into the world's leading economic communities, particularly acceding to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The event was organized with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine (UNDP Ukraine), with funding from the Government of Japan and the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI) and expert support from the OECD.
The event was opened by the honored guests - Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Kerri-Ann Jones, Deputy Secretary - General OECD, and Jaco Cilliers, Resident Representative of UNDP in Ukraine.
The UNIC members, Ukrainian business representatives, international financial institutions, and leading industry experts discussed the role and tasks of business in the country's reconstruction, ensuring transparency, equal opportunities, and minimizing corruption risks in the reconstruction process. Participants shared their expectations of the government and the corporate sector and opportunities for cooperation and support.
One of the most pressing issues today is Ukraine's acceding to the OECD and the Special Status of Ukraine as an OECD Accession country. Industry experts and business representatives discussed what steps must be taken to prepare the market and the state and what changes businesses should be preparing for today.
In addition, the Meeting members reviewed the practice of doing business with integrity as one of the main criteria for receiving funding for reconstruction, in particular, the OECD recommendations on anti-corruption compliance, the requirements of international donor organizations and financial institutions to Ukrainian businesses for providing financing, and the basic principles of preparing a business recovery plan.
During the meeting, Antonina Prudko, Head of the UNIC Secretariat, presented the UNIC Report for 2022 and the budget for the calendar year 2023, which were approved by the UNIC members by vote.
The UNIC Secretariat expresses its sincere gratitude to everyone who joined this solemn event: speakers, guests, as well as all members of the Ukrainian Network of Integrity and Compliance, who are united by common values of transparency and integrity business conduct.
Special thanks to our partners - the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, with whom UNIC has also agreed to further cooperate in strengthening the integrity of Ukrainian business through the development of a video course for small and medium enterprises and a series of thematic events in the context of engaging the private sector in Ukraine’s restoration, including in the regions.
