UNIC experts held a working meeting with NACP to discuss the concept of independent compliance monitoring
UNIC has taken the lead in developing a model for independent compliance monitors to promote transparency, prevent violations, and ensure adherence to anti-corruption standards. During a working meeting with the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) and independent monitors from the USA and the UK, UNIC expressed its commitment to supporting the further development of this concept for implementation in Ukraine.
The UNIC network also offered its platform for consultations with compliance experts and key stakeholders, including international independent monitors from the USA, UK, France, and Germany, representatives from the Anti-Corruption Agency (AFA), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Sam Eastwood, Partner at Mayer Brown International:
“Ukraine needs a clear understanding of quality compliance and risk management, such as addressing corruption or cyber threats. Adaptability
and clear agreements are essential for effective monitoring.”
Bart M. Schwartz, Chairman of Guidepost Solutions LLC:
“The role of monitors is to help companies improve, not to punish. Their goal is to drive sustainable change that will endure after the monitoring process concludes.”
During the discussion, the French AFA monitoring model was highlighted, which integrates auditing existing systems with enhancing compliance programs.
Antonina Prudko, Head of the UNIC Secretariat:
“Monitoring is not about punishment but support. It’s crucial that the system functions effectively even without monitors, and that their work benefits both companies and the sector at large, ensuring transparency and accountability.”
As a result of the meeting, further discussions were scheduled to develop an effective model that considers both international experience and the specifics of Ukrainian legislation.
A big thank you to all participants for contributing to the creation of a tool that brings Ukrainian businesses closer to international standards!
