UNIC and OSCE launch project “Promoting a Culture of Responsible Business Conduct for SMEs in the Regions”
The Ukrainian Network of Integrity and Compliance (UNIC) has initiated the project “Promoting a Culture of Responsible Business Conduct for SMEs in the Regions”, in collaboration with the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, the State Employment Service, and the “Made in Ukraine” offices.
The project aims to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in understanding how the principles of integrity and transparency can become fundamental tools for business growth and resilience. The initiative's first step was an online webinar held on October 30, which brought together over 200 participants.
Oleksandr Vasylchuk, Deputy Director of the Department of Regulatory Policy and Entrepreneurship and Head of the Division for Entrepreneurship Development and Support at the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, underscored that trust is one of the key “currencies” of today’s economy. Responsible businesses and integrity shape Ukraine’s image as a reliable global partner. He also noted that supporting responsible entrepreneurship is a priority of state policy, as outlined in the Sustainable SME Development Strategy until 2027.
During the opening of the event, Olena Dobrunik, Project Advisor on Open Data and Digitalization at the Office of the OSCE Co-ordinator of Economic and Environmental Activities, emphasized that business integrity is essential for sustainable development, investment attractiveness, and international partnerships. Mrs.Olena stated that transparency and accountability should be integral to daily business practices, as they foster trust in society and promote fair competition.
Representing UNIC, Antonina Prudko, Head of the UNIC Secretariat, and Daria Bilinska, Head of Business Development, highlighted in their presentation that business integrity culture is not a theory or a requirement for large companies. It represents a system of values and involves practical daily actions and decisions relevant to businesses of all sizes. Implementing ethical principles does not necessarily require substantial resources and can provide companies with process transparency, customer trust, and stability during times of crisis.
Participants expressed a strong interest in the real business cases presented during the webinar.
Aurora Multimarket was represented by Maksym Bezruk, Deputy Commercial Director for Key Partner Strategy, and Kateryna Kuzhym, Compliance Officer and Legal Counsel. They discussed how a systemic approach to business integrity has become a foundation for the company’s stability and reputation. By fostering transparent partner relations and a strong internal culture of ethics, Aurora maintains trust and promotes sustainable growth.
Viktor Romasenko, CEO of Dialogue Diagnostics, explained how the development of an internal compliance system has optimized the company’s processes, clarified responsibilities, and minimized risks that could impact service quality. For Dialogue Diagnostics, integrity serves both as a management principle and a tool for building partnerships in medical technologies.
Olena Bashchuk, Legal Counsel at KT Cosmetics, shared that the implementation of compliance practices has strengthened the company’s corporate culture, which is based on openness and fairness. Transparent policies and clear guidelines help prevent conflicts and enhance the company’s reputation as a responsible employer and reliable business partner.
In conclusion, Maryana Tekliuk, Coordinator of UNIC Academy, presented the project's following stages. In November, offline events will take place in the Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions, where around 200 Ukrainian entrepreneurs will receive practical tools for implementing compliance measures, learn about development opportunities from the State Employment Service, and join a community of entrepreneurs promoting integrity in business across Ukraine.
UNIC invites small and medium-sized business representatives to participate in regional events, share experiences, and build circles of trust — where business supports business. Integrity is not a limitation — it is an advantage that opens access to new markets, partnerships, and opportunities for sustainable growth.
