The Dark Pattern explores how even well-intentioned managers in successful companies can unknowingly slip into a state of moral blindness. It reveals how organizational environments, incentive systems, performance pressure, internal rules, and “heroic cultures” can gradually distort ethical judgment.
The authors outline nine hidden drivers that steer organizations toward ethical collapse—and offer practical tools to prevent it.
The book examines some of the most emblematic corporate crises of the 21st century:
Volkswagen — Dieselgate. A culture of overperformance, aggressive incentives, and collective blindness that enabled systematic deception of regulators.
Wells Fargo. Sales pressure and distorted KPI management that pushed thousands of employees toward widespread fraud.
Boeing 737 Max. Competitive haste and a managerial culture that suppressed critical technical concerns.
Theranos. Organizational opacity, the cult of a charismatic leader, and an environment where asking questions was treated as a threat.
These cases illustrate how any organization can drift off its ethical course if it fails to recognize dangerous patterns in time.
Prior to the event, all registered participants will receive the Ukrainian version of the presentation prepared by Professor Guido Palazzo and Serhii Ozip-Philippsen.
