UNIC presented its developments at the Vth Kharkiv International Legal Forum
During the panel discussion, UNIC presented its developments at the Vth Kharkiv International Legal Forum, "Stable Business Models Based on Respect for Human Rights."
In her report, Larysa Zhygun, Government Relations Manager, noted that Ukraine adopted a new National Strategy on Human Rights this year, which defines business and human rights as one of its strategic goals. Respect for human rights and human dignity must be an integral part of doing business.
Today, the most effective permanent models that can provide such intentions in business are compliance systems. In particular, respect for a person, protection of his rights and dignity, and prevention of any discrimination as a cross-cutting motive run through some policies developed by UNIC. Namely: Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, Whistleblower Protection Policy, HR Compliance Policy, Conflict of Interest Policy, Internal Investigation Policy.
By implementing compliance policies and affirming such values, companies contribute to developing their reputation brand and positive changes in society.
The working panel was also attended by Lyudmila Denisova, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights; Elena Uvarova, Chairperson of the International Laboratory of Business and Human Rights of the University; Yuriy Barabash, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Strategic Development of the University; Karin Roelke, Senior Project Manager of the Office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine; Maxim Belingeri, L'Oréal Human Rights Manager; Iryna Kostyuk, CSR and Regulatory Lead Carlsberg Ukraine; Ron Popper, CEO, Global Business Initiative on Human Rights and others.
